Privacy policy
Last updated: October 25, 2026. Eat First is made by Redbrook Labs ("we").
Short version: Eat First has no accounts and no analytics. Your food list stays on your phone. A few features use the internet, and they are listed below.
What stays on your phone
Your items, storage locations, history, reminder settings, your own shelf-life edits and any backup you export are stored on your device. We do not receive them and cannot see them.
What leaves your phone
- Barcode lookups. When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts to get the product name and nutrition facts. Like any internet request, this includes your IP address. We do not send your name, device identifiers or location. Open Food Facts handles requests under its own privacy policy.
- Food data updates. Once a day, the app can download a public list of shelf-life estimates from eatfirst.redbrooklabs.com, which is hosted on GitHub Pages and served through Cloudflare. These services may log your IP address as part of normal operation. No data about you is sent in the request. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Ads. Eat First shows banner ads from Google AdMob on the Today and Pantry screens, in the United States only. Ads are non-personalized and the app does not ask to track you across other apps or websites. Google may still collect device and usage information, such as your IP address and device identifiers, to deliver and measure ads. See Google's advertising policies.
Camera and notifications
The camera is used only to read barcodes while the scanner is open. Pictures are not saved or sent anywhere. Reminders are local notifications created on your phone.
Backups
Backups are files you choose to save with the Files app. Where you store them is up to you.
Children
Eat First is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Food safety and accuracy
Dates and nutrition facts are estimates from public and community sources and can be wrong. Check the package and use your own judgment. Eat First does not guarantee that any food is safe to eat, and nutrition facts should not be relied on for allergies.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
